Okay, so this is my final post…
And I’ve come to the realization, that some communities are just not meant for everyone. I’ve had Delicious for a few months now and as you can see from my Bookmark page, the last link I tagged was in October. I’m not much of a bookmarker, because I don’t surf as much as the average internet user. I mainly spend time exchanging photo’s and comments with friends on Facebook and Twitter, or I do graphic design. Lately I haven’t had much time for tutorials so I didn’t bookmark any good ones recently.
The fact that I don’t have any friends on Delicious also does not draw me to visit the community, and I don’t have interest in bookmarks of unknown people.
This community is purely about sharing links, which is not of much interest to me.
The public profile on Delicious does not provide any personal information about the users, which makes it very a-social. I don’t feel like an interest in bookmarks or a certain subject is enough for me to want a friendship with anyone on Delicious.
The lack of entertainment has made me abandon this website completely.
However as I did mention in my previous posts, I still liked the fact that you can really organize your bookmarks per category and they are easy to trace back. I think I will be using Delicious as more as organizing tool then a place to be social. I’m not sure if this is a bad thing, but I am really impressed with the structure.
I also like the fact that I can see recently added bookmarks from random people and I like the fact that I can view them whenever I want and not have to socialize. But this behavior is not new to me, I often find myself never commenting or thanking users for helpful, videos, pictures, music etc on various social network services such as YouTube and Bit torrent.
I guess this makes me a lurker, but as long as it’s not illegal I will continue to be one and abuse the fact that I can be totally rude and remain anonymous.
Thanks for reading my blog posts, I hope you have better luck with this community then I did.
Signing out for good!

I’ve been looking around for some more feedback about the community from members and I cam across the following site.
Here is where I found out that there is an application for Delicious on your iPhone, which I thought is pretty cool. I really love my iPhone and spend a lot of time on it, so I’m gonna try download it and see if it will improve my activity on the community… I doubt it
“m.delicious.com has now been optimized for iPhone users. You now get a much richer bookmarking experience on the go. You can now save links too! Great for those days you seem to be spending all day sat on a train or at an airport. Use your to:read tag and read all those articles you’ve been meaning to read. Alternatively, see what’s popular on the ‘Explore’ page or search for whatever happens to pique your interest.”

Okay, so I’m still not very active on delicious, but I must write about something.
I was doing some research on the community and I came accross some info. I found this site called del.izzy!
I thought it was pretty funny, check it out…Apparantly someone came up with a way that lets you search through all content, including title, description and page content, for all your bookmarks.

I’ve totally not been active on delicious, because it just does not seem to be my thing. But my opinion is not in the majority, check out Cnet’s review:

Alright, So I guess you’ve figured out blogging is not really my thing! Sorry for the update delay. But I guess I can blame it on the longggg reading list for Community Building, haha (Ok, bad joke
)
Well let’s talk about Delicious, to be honest I have not been really active on it and it’s not because I don’t like communities, because I am very active on many communities including my favorites Facebook and Twitter. I don’t think bookmarks excite me enough. I always had a very unorganized bookmark folder on my computers. When I came accross a website I really liked I would just add it to my folder along with many other unsorted bookmarks, which makes it so hard to trace back, that I find myself just looking in the History folder because it was faster.
I was really excited about Delicious, because I thought it would be a fun new way to be more organized, however not much had changed there.
Whenever I come across another cool site I would add it to delicious, just as I would of normally added it to my bookmark folder and I won’t go back to check it unless I need it. I rarely feel the need to share links with friends, mostly because we have different interests.
On a more positive note however, I do really appreciate the “tags” and “category” option. When I add a bookmark, I can simply add a few words concerning the link and then It’s easily traceable on the right hand side, because it’s added to the correct category. This I like!
But furthermore my social skills have not really blossomed as yet…

I thought I should share that I have my first friend on Delicious and he’s none other then my classmate Koen!
I don’t know anybody who has a Delicious account or maybe I have yet to find out who do.
When I add a few more friends I guess I’ll start to see the benefits of social networking!
Once again feel free to add me

This is a cool example of how communities are often combined or “work together”. I really like Twitter and I am very active on it, so I copied part of a blog post I found online about Delicious’ latest trend:
“Delicious, the Yahoo-owned social-bookmarking site, has awoken from its slumber, introducing the use of Twitter to rank the popular bookmarks displayed on its home page.
Under the new “Fresh Bookmarks” tab, recently bookmarked links are ordered by the number of related tweets they’ve garnered.
You can still view popular links ranked the old way—by the number of times they’ve been recently bookmarked—by clicking on the “Popular Bookmarks” tab.
In a blog post today (August 4), Yahoo architect Vik Singh explained that the new feature arose from TweetNews, an application he released in January that ranks Yahoo News articles by the number of tweets they’ve gotten.”

I don’t know anybody that has an account as yet, so I gotta ask around if anyone indeed does.
Until I get more contacts I’ll see the real benefits of social bookmarking.
